Trackgrip dissipates dirt in busy transport depots
To protect workers from the dangers of built-up grease and grime in busy London Underground maintenance pits, we created a custom matting solution to ensure vehicle maintenance pit safety.
The problem
The London Underground maintains and services its fleet of underground trains at two large maintenance depots in Northfields and Cockfosters. It’s here that train engineers inspect and work on the underside of the trains, often for long periods of time. With grease, grime and water from the maintenance work building up over time, the concrete floor was becoming slippery and uncomfortable for engineers to work on. To ensure vehicle maintenance pit safety, management went on the hunt for a slip resistant surface that could handle spillages and fall through, and also mark out safe walkways for workers in the multi-layer pits.

The solution
The London Underground’s engineering company JNB Construction and Engineering approached distributor Dyanwest Ltd for a fitting solution. Because the brief was so unique, we created a bespoke product for the job called Trackgrip, heavy-duty plastic matting designed to withstand greasy and grimy environments. Once it was successfully trialled at the Cockfosters depot, it was rolled out to the larger depot at Northfields.
Made from non-porous PVC with a two-layer construction, the matting is fluid-resistant and offers first-rate drainage. Its diamond cut pattern provides quality slip resistance, and the wide grid makes it perfect for any workplace where oils and grease are present. Trackgrip has actually proven to be so effective that it’s now part of our core range.
