Crossgrip PVC ensures safe rooftop access
To mark out safe walkways for maintenance staff, a new Ikea store on the outskirts of Berlin needed 700 metres of roof matting.
The problem
Ikea houses vital services and plant equipment on the rooftops of its stores, which means they can maximize their retail display areas, plus keep the public away from potential dangers. The building owners of a new Ikea on the outskirts of Berlin needed to find an easy and safe way for engineers to access the roof and ensure the highest quality roof protection at the same time.

The solution
In this case, our specialized Crossgrip PVC roof matting was the obvious solution. The durable, two-layer construction protects the roof membrane, while the diamond-cut pattern and cross-directional top ribs ensure a firm grip underfoot. Crossgrip PVC also remains stable in winds up to 96km/h (60mph), and the vinyl composition means that it's naturally resistant to bacteria growth.
Made of flexible PVC, it effortlessly contours over uneven surfaces, including membrane seams, ramps and changes in levels, and can be cut on site to fit around obstacles and machinery. This, coupled with the fact it’s designed to be loose laid without the need for fixing, means the roof matting can be installed quickly and easily even in adverse weather. The IKEA installation was so faultless, in fact, that roofing contractor Dachland Berlin was able to lay all 700 metres in one day.
