Heronrib helps keep hospital patients free from slips
When a new physiotherapy pool built at an orthopaedic hospital in Greece needed a flooring solution to keep patients safe from slips, Heronrib was the obvious solution.
The problem
As you’d expect, safety was a top priority for the newly built wing at the orthopaedic rehabilitation hospital in Athens, Greece. Comprising a physiotherapy pool, shower areas and changing rooms, the new facility required a high performance mat that remained sturdy underfoot when wet.
It also had to be able to cover the metal steps leading to the pool, and withstand continuous submersion in water. Because the pool would mostly be used by the elderly, people with disabilities and the injured, the hospital floor solution also needed to be soft and comfortable underfoot.

The solution
The nature of the pool’s users meant the matting needed to provide equal amounts of grip and comfort underfoot. Guided by a specialist flooring contractor, hospital management installed our Heronrib slip-resistant floor mat around the pool’s perimeter, and also down the stairs leading into the water.

The addition of permanent antimicrobial and antifungal properties helps to protect against fungal and bacterial contamination – an essential requirement for any wet area where there’s direct skin contact.
